Final Exam

1.  There was a man named Ki Suk Han, who was pushed by a panhandler who seemed to be harassing passerby. Han wanted to help calm the man down but fell in as there was an incoming train. Desperately trying to get out but didn't have enough strength to get out in time and was still in the middle of the tracks, the photographer who captured the photo seen was running, and running flashing the conductor to get his attention to stop the train.

2.  He claims he tried to flash the conductor with his camera.

3.  I think that as soon as the train was coming he should have gone in there and helped the 58 year old man who didn't have any strength to get himself out of there. He should have helped instead of taken the photo.

4.  Usually you wouldn't know what to do in certain cases like that, which means you have to act fast and do that you know is the better decision. You don't have time to think about anything but just go in and help as much as you can.

5.  I disagree on putting the photo as the cover because I don't think it was right to share that knowing was had happened. And to say that the man was doomed I feel like is very immature to say.

6.  It is defiantly more important as a human being to help when others when in need, do not stand there and take a picture. That is the amount of time you just waisted to take a photo instead of helping others in a dangerous and life threatening situation.

7.  Well it depends on the situation, if you are in a situation where there is nothing to be done and you are just taking a photo to take a photo it is okay. But if the situation is where someone is dying and need help DO NOT DO THAT! Go in and help another out.

8.  No because showing that is ok to take photos while something tragic could have happened is not the way photographer should be going.


9.  Like I was saying one of the photographers said that you need to drop your camera and rushing to help, if you fail to help at least you tried. Rather than taking photos because the conductor might not know what flashing means.

Review

1.) A young girl named Amelia is asleep after another hard day of work outside with the family. Amelia and her friend finished and then played tag went back to the hut and fell asleep.

2.) While practicing the horse act for the audience, Marshall White never knew how to control a horse. The man near him was ready to help since he was not trained they must have the show go on, the horse freaked out and tried to escape, being pulled, choked, and confused.

4.  It's okay to fix blemishes, and imperfections but I feel like you should not change their whole body unless the model doesn't even recognize that it is her.

5. It is usually not okay.

6. But it's okay if its the little things like imperfections. (pimples) It's not okay if she is big and you make her super small, and change her whole body and face.

7. Fashion Photography, is where they take pictures of people in certain types of clothes. While Photojournalism is where you take pictures of anything and you write about the photos you take.

8. How people in magazines, they don't really look like that, there is a process that they have to be "perfect" in order to be beautiful. But girls don't usually look like how they come out in pictures. They don't look like that is reality.

9. How it shows how crazy people expect girls to look like. What people do in order to make girls        " Hot or Beautiful" and that they have to look a certain way. And how they change their bodies to make them acceptable in our society. And those videos are shown in the process of changing girls bodies and how dramatic people can go. Also how they use photoshop to completely change people.

10.  Because i feels like it really doesn't  usually matter on what guys look like. Not to seem sexist but i feel like girls are more of the "Stars" when it comes to advertisement. Because girls are used in so many things. Guys are definitely changed in photoshop, but they change more things about girls.

Magazines Part 2

 Early Magazine Covers :

It seems that those magazine covers were based off of really old book inside covers. It has that ancient kind of look to it. That was probably the kind of look they were going for. It doesn't have many things that tell what it will be about. But it also is shows pictures of what you think it may have it it plus the title should give some information about it.

Pictures That Need No Words : 

These types of covers explain them selves they show a lot of what will be shown or told when reading it. It shows what doesn't need to be explained. The photographers were very talented that they didn't need to have any kind of subheadings on the pictures, or by the pictures. They had a good amount of detail in the pictures, that the pictures spoke for themselves.

Pictures Married to Type : 

These types of covers definitely advanced and they had more formal photos rather than drawings. It actually showed real people, and they had the more Photo shoot type of look. It was really nice looking, and they had subheadings and everything. The basically had more things to offer, rather than the Early Magazine Covers, which only had drawings. And they had no detail in them.

In The Forest of Words : 

This is where covers turned into more modern covers. They had better quality in pictures, they looked very real, and they poked very nice as an overall look. It had came to be more nicer than all of the other types of covers, which looked ancient old, and or tacky. These kinds of covers looked more like there were filters in them and they had looked more formal type of covers.

My Favorite Cover

Brides, October/November, Get Inspired

This is one is one of my favorites because the woman on the right looks like Audrey Hepburn, and she is a very classy woman. But the cover is very fancy, elegant, and pretty. I noticed that the woman on the right has a very pretty looking dress that looks neutral. But the flowers add a nice pop of color to the picture. Also it is good because the idea of brides do not look tacky or ugly. Like I said elegant and beautiful. The two covers are different because the woman on the right is showing her body, yet the other just has a close up on her face. I say that the left is nicer because you can see her dress, hair flowers, and makeup. Yet both of the brides do both look very nice i would just rather prefer to see everything rather than a close up. It looks nicer in my opinion. I also notice that the cover on the right has a lot more subheading than the right cover. It has a lot more things around the picture because they probably wanted to fill it in. But since the rich cover is a close up, they only put a little, because then it would be over done and it would look like a really bad cover.

Magazine Tips

1. Arousing Curiosity -  something that will want the glancer to want to read your magazine

2. Intellectual stimulating - That will make it worth wanting to read your magazine (worth it)

3. Efficient, fast - It is not to long that will make the reader fall asleep, but will give them the information that they want to know

4. Make sure that your photo is 100% real and not photoshoped

5. Make sure that your cover (picture) is interesting that will make the reader want to know more

American Soldier

A.  I thought that this was powerful because it was 5 months since he went back to Iraq and his family and friends of Ian have seen him. Especially they were all their to Welcome him back   thought it was very cute.

The most powerful set of photos was in Iraq, because it's in Iraq! It shows all of the things he had to so do during that time.

C.  It shows all the things he had to go through, what it is really like to be in the Army and what you have to do in order to be in the Army. You have to train in the Army.

 B.  The captions enhance the photos by letting the readers actually know what is going on instead of the readers trying to guess what is happening in the pictures.

All of the soldiers mess around with each other by jumping on one another in a little dog pile. They just wanted to have some fun ties with their roommates.  

Its finally lead up to him almost getting through his training. But was he ready to handle all of this?

The soldiers are in the arena practicing, just to be prepared at all times. They had to practice just in case if they were to be attacked or needed to go look around the premises.

Self Portraits and Portraits Part 1

  1. Introduce a Prop

 Add a prop of some kind into your shots and you create another point of interest that can enhance your shot.

Yes you might run the risk of taking too much focus away from your main subject but you could also  really add a sense of story and place to the image that takes it in a new direction and gives the person you're photographing an extra layer of depth that they wouldn't have had without the prop.

2. Take Unfocused Shots

As photographers we have 'sharp focus' drummed into us as an ultimate objective to achieve in our work - but sometimes lack of focus can create shots with real emotion, mood and interest.

There are two main strategies for taking unfocused images that work:

1. Focus upon one element of the image and leave your main subject blurred To so this a large aperture which will create a narrow depth of field and focus upon something in front of or behind your subject.

2. Leave the full image out of focus. To do this again choose a wide aperture but focus well in front or behind anything that is in your image (you'll need to switch to manual focussing to achieve this).

These kinds of shots can be incredibly dreamy and mysterious.


3. Introduce Movement

Portraits can be so static - but what if you added some movement into them? This can be achieved in a few ways:

- by making your subject move
- by keeping your subject still but having an element in the scene around them move
- by moving your camera (or it's lens to achieve a zoom burst)

The key with the above three methods is to use a slow enough shutter speed to capture the movement.

The alternative is to have your subject obviously move fast but to use a shutter speed so fast that it 'freezes' their movement.

Environmental Portrait

1. Th first photo I chose it because I really loved how they have an cute carnival background and they kiss with a perfect shot. 

2. In the second picture I chose it because my favorite types of picture are very out doors looking ones. These types of photos I just really love, and how the guy isn't blocking it but is still in there nicely.

Self Portrait

1. The first photo I chose it because I liked the way that it looked in a close up.

2. The second photo I chose because i loved the way her hair looked in a cute messy bun. ANd the overall picture I feel like is adorable.

Casual Portrait

1. I chose the first photo because I love how the baby's eyes color is so pretty. Also how the baby looks out the window so cute.

2. I chose the second picture because I love how the sunset behind her kind of goes over her, but it doesn't make her look like a shadow. And the background is a blur behind her.

I'm going to shoot my brother, probably I will shoot him in the streets. I'll make sure to get good angles, and try to get some sunsets in there to add something. I want to make sure that th epicures are around sunset times.

1.  It is better because you can see the pictures more clearly rather than it being very pixelated. 

2. The lowest ISO number of the sensor that can produce the highest image quality, without adding noise to the picture.

3. It increases sensitivity.

Cancer Photos Overtime

1.  It made me really sad to see someone go through something like that. I thought it was tragic how you are having such a great life, than in an instance you are diagnosed with breast cancer. I always get worried about getting diagnosed with that kind of cancer.

2.  I think that it means that by looking at a picture you don't know everything about it, but you know something like it.

3.   I couldn't take photos because it would make me even more sad by just knowing that someone you knows going through something like that.

4.   I would tell Angelo, I am so sorry for your lose, I don't know what I would do if I was in this situation. But you need to stay strong because it will hopefully get better.

Captions

  It seems that Rafael, Bob, and Marley are sitting down with Sally imitating the 3 monkey emoji's. Sally's anticipating for them to come out with her emoji.

  The cops aren't gonna catch them riding dirty. Until they had to back to the nursing home before the women would catch them gone.

Just because she's old doesn't mean she can't be Yonce. It was the best birthday!

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

1. What  really caught my eye was the amazing landscape, it is something that you usually don't see everyday.

Photo Mural Project

1. We could do a mural around the school of the people who aren't noticed, the ones nobody seems to take interest in. And how talented these people are, like certain types of clubs. Everyone knows the Silverstars, the football team, baseball, etc. But the ones who try to be out there but no one knows who they are.

2. I would say that it would be a lot easier if people used there phones because not every one can access really nice cameras. So if you see something really cool, and it might not happen again, take a picture of it.

3. I would put the mural in the place where people would see it, which could be on the floor in the courtyard. I would put it there if people would not step on it. Or I could ask put it in the middle of the A and F hall, because everyone passes there to get to class.

Academic Shoot and Reflection

Balance :

1. I thought this would be a good balance because his arm makes a triangle, from it extending, to the metal tip.

2. The subject is the boy, making a triangle with his arm.

3. I think that it is a little noticeable, that it would make a shape, since his arm is long. You should be able to see it.

4. I would have moved up a little closer, just so you can really focus on it and see it makes a triangle.

Lines :

1. I feel like I did a good job at following the rule of lines, because the lights really show the direction of the lines.

2. The subject is the ceiling, it has lines on it and it focus's on it.

3. They might think that it is the boy, but I think that the ceiling stands out more.

4. I would raise the camera more, so you would think that the ceiling is the subject and not the boy sitting down.

Simplicity :

1. I think that nothing is going on in the back, so I followed the rule.

2. The subject is the classroom.

3. Yes it is pretty obvious what the subject is, or at least in my opinion.

4. If I did, I would focus on something smaller rather a big place because it would be easier.

Rule of Thirds :

1. It kinda of has them in the top right corner.

2. The subject is the two girls.

3. It is focused on the girls more, but the track is a little hazy.

4. I would have turned the camera to the left so that the girls are more in the corner.

Framing :

1. The picture is framed, and you can see that the girl is working.

2. The subject is the girl on the computer working.

3. Yes, because it is bordering the girl, framing.

4. I would have zoomed in just a little bit.

National Geographic

1. This is my favorite photo because I love how it shows so much geographic features from the mountains all the way to the ice in the water.  I feel like it looks so amazing, and i love how it shows how cold it looks by just looking at it. I also love how the ice looks in the water it looks like when bubble came to the top and then just froze.

2.  I would submit a photo to National Geographic of Buddhist in Bali, it would look very worldly. And traditional, with all of the monks together meditating. I would submit that to National Geographic.

Academic Shoot Preview - Part 2

1.  I picked the photo with the girl dropping red liquids onto a speaker and the liquid is bouncing back.    I thought that it looked really cool, and especially that it's pink.

2.  This is balance because of speaker makes a square, and the pink liquid kind of makes a triangle.


1.  Outside, most of the photos I see now are people kind of modeling. They are somewhere different than just being inside.

2.  I would like to take photos in Culinary and Art.

3.  I would like to take pictures of people just being themselves, not someone their not just to "look cool." I like originality, it looks nicer and more creative. It would look nice to take pictures of them in the place where they feel more comfortable.

Academic Shoot Preview

The Story:

1.   I felt like this would be the best story because, it shows these teenagers feeding the homeless people. Obviously this is a really good deed, even though they don't have to do it, they do. I just thought that it was really sweet, to do things like this.

Action and Emotion:

2.   I put this as the best action and emotion because, it shows the action being the ice being exploded into the air. And it goes good with emotion because, you really see their expressions of how their experiment explodes. 

Filling The Frame:

3.   I thought that this was very interesting because I really wanted to know why they are holding hands, all guys, and heads down by a pole. It makes me wonder, did something tragic happen for them to do that. Or  honoring the flag maybe, it really makes me wonder.

Photo Manipulation And Ethics

1. 

A.  So this shows when people have taken Photoshop too far. So what happened was that people having been using Adobe Photoshop in ways that are not the truth. Trying to make it something that it's not. What they are trying to say is that its okay to use Photoshop, but don't overdue it. And when you do use it don't use it in a bad way to ruin the original way it was taken to be.

B.  I feel like people shouldn't be using that type of editing because it messes with why the whole point of the picture, and the way it was meant to be. And it should not be used that way. Especially when and if it's a picture that has an importance to it.

2.

A.  I feel like most unethical photo would be this one because this never happened, and since Bill Clinton is an important person, you should not make things up like that. And when you make things up about him talking to a person he never did, at somewhere he never was, is wrong. And I feel like you shouldn't have to make up a story just to have done one, where not a single photographer was in sight.

B.  I feel like this is the least unethical picture because all they did was put Oprah's head on Ann  Margaret's body. All of the other photos have something dramatically happening. But something harmless as changing a little detail isn't something very crazy. Plus it adds a little glam to "Oprah's body." That's nothing compared to the other pictures.

Touching People

1. I think this idea really would be awkward because it challenges people to touch random strangers, obviously not everyone would be up to touching another person. I know that I would not want to touch an other person I don't know.

2. I someone asked me to do this I would definitely by shy about that, but if I were to do it multiple times I know that I would be like " Hey do you wanna take a picture!" But if I was asked to do a photo shoot with another person I guess I would be up for it.

3. Besides this photo shoot if I were to do one, I would ask people if they could kiss someone on the cheek. Because I would definitly want to see who could be up to the challenge to do that, it takes a lot of guts in my opinion. But something that would be difficult to do for random strangers on the street.

4. What I think about this photo shoot is that, I like how they took totally opposite people instead of people who look the same as another. So it looks more diverse. An example like a baby with another baby, thats typical. I would want a baby and a puppy, something different. What I'm trying to say is that I love how they took people who do not look anything alike to one another. I think that the photos came out pretty good, and I liked looking at them.

Top 40 Photos

1.  Photographer : Rich Lam

- The first photo made me want to pick it is because, I thought it looked cute. The boyfriend kissed his girlfriend after she gets knocked down by a police officer. So he picks her right back up with a helping kiss.

- In the picture the photographer hazes out the background and focus's on the couple, so it shows the main point of the picture.

- I feel that it made the Top 40 because it shows a lot of emotion and affection in one little photo. So it has such an impact in it.

2.  Photographer :Yomiuri Shimbun

- The second photo made me want to pick it because, it shows all the military men in the background obviously because something happened. But the man holding the baby makes me think that he saved her from that tragic accident.

- What had standed out in the picture was the baby in the pink blanket, because it focus more on her than the guy. Because she was the one who looks like is being saved and the photographer makes it more about her and the man, so he aims it more at them.

- I feel like this made the Top 40 because it shows how the baby is being held in his arms, and in the background you can tell that something happened. So  since there is mud and items all over the place, so it makes me wonder what had happened.

3.  Photographer : Aaron Thompson

- What made me pick this photo because I know what happens when someone in the armed forces receives a flag. It means that someone in their family passed away, and a young boy is taking it so I would think that his dad is gone.

- What makes this photo stand out it the little boy crying, and trying to hold back his tears. As  he receives a flag.

- I think this made Top 40 because it is such an emotional photo, the boy accepting the flag in honor of his dad passing away.

Black And White Photographers Part 2

Ansel Adams :

Birth Date : February 20, 1902

Death Date : April 22, 1984

Birth Place : San Francisco, California

Education : Harvard and Yale University

Ansel Adams had many books published. In 1938 he created a limited-edition book called Sierra Nevada. He became a photographer when his parents gave him a Kodak Box Brownie as a gift during a family vacation to Yosemite National Park in 1916. He is best remembered as a prominent black and white photographer. In 1921 his first photographs were published. He joined Sierra Club, where he started his career.

Great Black and White Photographers

The first photo was taken by Ansel Adams called "Into The Storm". I love this photo because of the landscape. It looks really cool because of the forest with the fog. Which makes it have a little bit of hazy look to it. But overall I really love this photo.

The second photo was taken by Robert Doisneau called "Down The Factory". Now this photo is different because of the little boy with a bag on his back. I wonder why or if he's going to the factory down the hill. This picture has an old scenery, it looks dirty and it looks like there are a lot of clouds because of the pollution from the factory. But this picture really makes me wonder where he's going.

The last photo was taken by Walker Evans called "Couple At Coney Island". Now clearly this is back in the day with the older looking clothing, and just by their overall appearance. This photo is really cute with him holding her waist, and her holding his shoulder. It looks like they are looking at the little building with the flags. But what makes this cute is that they are together overlooking the features of Coney Island.
